West Sussex Teachers Association Services

When we became a single Association covering the County instead of the eight local associations we promised you a better more efficient service.
Three years on we are in contact with you all through Local Voice. Originally a Chichester-based newsletter, we went county-wide and now reach all our members whether school-based, peripatetic or retired. With The Teacher from National Headquarters delivered to every member at home, Local Voice has concentrated on giving a West Sussex perspective on major issues and news of local opt-outs, conditions of service, and West Sussex initiatives.
Our second development is the Helpline. It is designed for individual members to seek advice or assistance confidentially. It is a 24 hour service and works on a very simple principle.
The member rings or faxes the Helpline number:-
and leaves the enquiry to be answered. There is no need to leave a name, just a number where you can be contacted and your home or work area. The Helpline operator will decide whether to refer you to a caseworker or whether the query merely needs advice. The member is then contacted with reply or with a number to call where help will be at hand within hours of making the original contact.
Our caseworkers, all serving West Sussex teachers, are based all over the county and as part of their commitment to you, their colleagues, they have undergone training and are prepared to give up their free time to help you.
If they judge a matter to be beyond their capabilities they will immediately refer you to a full time union official who will be able to give first-rate professional support.
Never forget when you are in the NUT
help,support and friendship
are only a phone call away.
